A delegation of Catalan parliamentarians continues its visit to the region in support of the resistance of the people of Rojava. As part of this visit, the delegation paid a visit to the General Command Center of the Women\u2019s Protection Units (YPJ).<\/p>\n
The Catalan parliamentary delegation included Ruben Wagensberg, a parliamentarian and president of the Popular Union Party, and Carles Albert. They met with Rohlat Afrin, a member of the General Command of the Women\u2019s Protection Units, spokesperson Roxan Mohammed, and members of the Military Council of the Women\u2019s Protection Units, Avinar Derik and Destina Aleppo, to assess the latest developments.<\/p>\n
During the meeting between the Catalan delegation and the leadership of the Women\u2019s Protection Units, the risks facing the women\u2019s revolution in Rojava were discussed. They also evaluated how jihadist forces, which previously controlled the region and are now regaining strength, could impact the future establishment of a governance system in Syria amidst the collapse of Baath regime authority.<\/p>\n
Rohlat Afrin, a member of the General Command of the Women\u2019s Protection Units, emphasized the importance of resisting the occupation attacks, describing this resistance as a historic moment that determines the fate of the people in the region. She stated:<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Middle East is being reshaped, and many interventions, especially in Syria, are taking place. Militias and armed groups are being used to reshape the region. This poses significant risks to the security of the region, the future of society, and women.<\/p>\n
Our goal and responsibility as the Women\u2019s Protection Units are to protect women and communities from these dangers. Attacks targeting women mean denying the existence of society. For instance, in the new formation of the Damascus government, there is no place for women. Additionally, the Turkish occupation attacks on northern and eastern Syria are reviving ISIS once again. Under such circumstances, ISIS cells find opportunities to reorganize themselves, creating a new threat for the entire world.\u201d<\/p>\n
Carles Albert, the parliamentarian and president of the Popular Union Party, affirmed that the Catalan people support the just struggle of the people of Rojava. He also highlighted the severity of the threats to the achievements of the Rojava Revolution and stated:<\/p>\n
\u201cThe international community must remain vigilant and stand against the occupation attacks on Rojava. The Autonomous Administration in Rojava is a vital project for the Kurdish and Arab people, and for the entire Middle East. At the same time, it is essential for the whole world.\u201d<\/p>\n
On behalf of all Women\u2019s Protection Units forces, especially the fighters resisting jihadist groups and the Turkish occupation, Rohlat Afrin expressed her gratitude to the Catalan people for their support. She emphasized that the solidarity of Catalan women and people with Rojava\u2019s resistance is a source of pride amidst these critical and challenging circumstances.<\/p>\n
