Those who killed Deniz Gezmis also targeted the Leader APO.
The targeting of the Leader APO on May 6, 1996, went beyond just the Turkish state, NATO, and numerous local powers involved in this conspiracy. Undoubtedly, the Gulf War was a key element in the war against the Middle East. As a second phase of this war, the May 6 attack aimed to consolidate control over the Middle East. Essentially, it sought to manipulate the region’s true history, culture, and wealth. Moreover, it aimed to thwart unity among various Middle Eastern countries and peoples, including Kurds, Arabs, Armenians, and Syrians. Democratic ideals, which foster unity among peoples, posed the greatest threat to dominant powers. the Leader APo’s advocacy for an alternative system against the capitalist regime, rooted in democratic principles, prompted dominant powers to try to suppress him by all means.
Such conspiracies are inseparable from history. On May 6, 1916, 21 Arab intellectuals were executed in Damascus and Beirut. Likewise, on May 6, 1972, Deniz Gezmis, Huseyin Inan, and Yusuf Aslan were executed. The attack on the Leader APO also executed on the same date, indicating a deliberate choice of timing to send a message. It was the same regime that targeted the Leader APO killed Deniz Gezmis and his comrades.
Deniz Gezmis and his comrades spoke of the brotherhood between Kurdish and Turkish people before entering parliament. Similarly, APO the Leader regarded his struggle as an extension of this resistance. Through his unwavering commitment to a socialist approach throughout his years of struggle, APO the Leader furthered the legacy left by guerrillas like Deniz, strengthening and enlarging the spirit of resistance against this regime.”
