A delegation from Canada, Ireland, and the United States visited the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ). The delegation discussed with YPJ leaders the attacks targeting the region and the stance of the female fighters regarding these attacks.
Under the democratic ecological model and women’s freedom, North and East Syria operate within a national democratic system led by the Women’s Protection Units. The YPJ has become a source of inspiration for freedom-loving women from all over the world who come to visit North and East Syria.
A delegation from Canada, Ireland, and the United States visited the Women’s Protection Units. The delegation included journalists, teachers, lawyers, and a large number of activists. They were received by the YPJ commander Viyan Adar, along with members of the Military Council of the Women’s Protection Units, Destina Aleppo and Kurdistan, as well as a member of the Armenian Parliament, Talin.
YPJ Leadership in All Aspects of Life
Viyan Adar, a member of the YPJ External Relations Office, spoke with the delegation about the role and mission of the Women’s Protection Units, stating:
“We have been engaged in a challenging struggle for fourteen years for an equal and free life. Women and communities in the region actively participate in this struggle, defending their homeland. At the same time, the Women’s Protection Units serve as a leading force in society across political, diplomatic, and military fields.”
Viyan Adar continued, highlighting the attacks on the region and the historical resistance of both the female fighters and the people:
“The commanders and fighters of the Women’s Protection Units are waging fierce battles at Tishrin Dam, Qara Qozak Bridge, and Deir Hafir, bearing great responsibilities and leading this historic fight. Especially at Tishrin Dam, the resistance of the people and fighters has become a symbol of revolutionary struggle. The unity between the people and the fighters in defending their land, water, and homeland is a great struggle that boosts morale.”
“Iraq Faces the Risk of a Dam Collapse”
Viyan Adar also spoke about the attack on Tishrin Dam and the risk of its destruction, stating:
“The Turkish occupation state and its affiliated factions have been attacking the dam for days. This attack poses a serious risk of destroying the dam, which would also have grave consequences for Iraq. The destruction of the dam would have a major impact on Iraq. Therefore, protecting the dam is our duty, just as it is Iraq’s duty. Iraq must recognize the danger of this destruction and take responsibility for it.”
In conclusion, the delegation expressed their gratitude for the meeting and affirmed their commitment to continuing dialogue with the Women’s Protection Units.
