In an atmosphere marked by both sorrow and pride, the city of Kobani held a funeral ceremony for martyr Akri Zagros, who was known for her courage and sacrifices in the service of her people and homeland. Akri became a symbol of resistance within the ranks of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), dedicating her life to the defense of freedom and dignity.
Large crowds from Kobani and its surrounding areas gathered to participate in the funeral procession, accompanied by the voices of grieving mothers who had lost their children in the struggle. Mothers carrying deep sorrow in their hearts came together to mourn Akri’s loss, while chants of “Martyrs Never Die” echoed throughout the ceremony.
During the funeral, Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) commander Mahmoud Qarmogh delivered a speech in which he stated: “We will continue the struggle along the path of our martyrs. Our commitment will never waver, and we remain determined to carry forward the cause of freedom and the defense of our homeland. We will never retreat from the path of resistance.”
The attendees responded to Mahmoud Qarmogh’s remarks with expressions of support and solidarity, reflecting a spirit of determination and perseverance. The ululations of the mothers of martyrs also resonated throughout the ceremony as they raised their hands toward victory, affirming that the blood of the martyrs would pave the way for the freedom of their people.
