Solemn Funeral Ceremony for Martyr Shilan Kobani and Martyr Karkar Kobani in Kobani

Today, the people of Kobani solemnly bid farewell to the bodies of Martyr Shilan Kobani and Martyr Karkar Kobani in a dignified ceremony attended by hundreds of martyrs’ families, fighters from the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) and the People’s Protection Units (YPG), as well as representatives of civil and social institutions in the city.

The ceremony began with a minute of silence in tribute to the martyrs, followed by several speeches. Among the most prominent was the address delivered by Comrade Arîn Kobani, a commander in the Internal Security Forces (Asayish), who extended her condolences to the families of the martyrs and to all the people of Kobani. She affirmed that the martyrdom of Shilan and Karkar is a continuation of the path of struggle and resistance in the face of all forms of oppression.

In her speech, Arîn stated that Martyr Shilan was an example of courage, strength, and unwavering determination until she attained the honor of martyrdom, adding: “We pledge to our martyrs that we will continue to follow in their footsteps, holding firmly to the principles for which they sacrificed their lives—foremost among them freedom, human dignity, and the defense of our people and our land.”

During the ceremony, commemorative certificates honoring the martyrs were presented to their families in recognition of their sacrifices. Other speakers emphasized that the blood of the martyrs would remain a beacon guiding future generations toward a future defined by freedom and peace.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, the bodies of Martyr Shilan and Karkar Kobani were carried on the shoulders of mourners amid ululations, chants, and slogans symbolizing freedom and resistance. They were then laid to rest at the Martyrs’ Cemetery, where the people renewed their vow to continue the path of struggle until the goals for which the sons and daughters of Kobani sacrificed their lives are achieved.
