In a scene embodying the deepest meanings of loyalty and belonging to the land, and affirming that love for one’s homeland is demonstrated through action and work before words, women fighters of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), together with their comrades from the Internal Security Forces—Asayish and the Women’s Traffic Police—gathered this afternoon to carry out a comprehensive voluntary clean-up campaign around the Martyr and fighter Arîn Mîrkan Roundabout in the city of resistance and steadfastness, Kobanê.
The event began with a heartfelt and meaningful speech delivered by Comrade Arîn, a leader in the Internal Security Forces. She welcomed the participants and emphasized that this campaign was the least that could be offered in loyalty to the blood of the martyrs.
Following Comrade Arîn Kobanê’s speech, dozens of women fighters and members began working collectively and in an organized manner around the roundabout. This roundabout is not merely an ordinary public square; it is a historical and symbolic landmark commemorating the heroic martyr Arîn Mîrkan, who detonated herself among ISIS mercenaries during their attack on Kobanê in 2014, becoming an icon of resistance and sacrifice for freedom.
They first collected plastic waste and accumulated litter from the sides of the roads, then swept the sidewalks and cleaned the streets leading to the roundabout, including the removal of rubble and solid waste. After collecting the rubbish, they washed and thoroughly cleaned the area until the roundabout was once again clean and shining as it should be.
The great enthusiasm shown by the women fighters was particularly remarkable. They worked with smiles and high spirits, saying that protecting Kobanê does not only mean carrying weapons and defending it, but also preserving its cleanliness, beauty, and civilized appearance.
“We have gathered here today as women fighters of the Women’s Protection Units and the Internal Security Forces to demonstrate that we are one hand. Our mission is not only to maintain security, but also to build a clean and healthy society. We will always stand hand in hand to make our homeland cleaner, purer, and more beautiful, because cleanliness is part of our culture and our values.
