Kobanê – Adla Bekir, reacted to the attacks targeting images of martyrs in the al-Khuwairan neighbourhood of Hasakah.
Adla Bekir said: “As the people of Kobanê, we condemn this act against the images of the martyrs. To us, our martyrs represent our values; they are our dignity and the light of our homeland and land. Today, we stand on our own feet thanks to the blood of the martyrs.”
“This Act Is an Attack on Women”
Adla Bekir continued: “The attack being carried out today against the images of the martyrs is, in reality, an attack on women. This act cannot be interpreted in any other way; it is an attack on all our values. We condemn this act. We will not remain silent about it, nor will we accept it.”
“Our Braids Are a Symbol of Our Struggle”
Drawing attention to the significance of the braid, Adla Bekir said: “Today, our braids are being targeted. The state must understand this clearly: these braids are our symbol. The braids that saved the world from the barbarity of ISIS belonged to our women fighters. The force that put an end to ISIS’s barbarity is the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ).”
“We Will Intensify Our Struggle”
In conclusion, Adla Bekir said: “My message is that no one should remain silent in the face of this act. We have thousands of martyrs, and no one can stand in the way of our struggle. We, as women and as mothers of martyrs, will strengthen our struggle even further.”
