Kobani Celebrates International Women’s Day with Messages of Resilience and Artistic Performances Reflecting Women’s Struggle

The city of Kobani witnessed a large and distinctive celebration on March 8 to mark International Women’s Day, as large numbers of women from various neighborhoods and surrounding villages gathered to participate in this national and humanitarian occasion. The event was characterized by a spirit of resistance and resilience, sending a clear message from the land of defiance to the world about the central role of women in building society and defending freedom.

The celebration began with a minute of silence in honor of the martyrs, followed by speeches and activities that reflected the spirit and determination of women. On this occasion, Rokan Ahmed, a member of the Kongra Star organization, delivered the main speech on behalf of the organization.

In her speech, Rokan Ahmed emphasized that women in Kobani have presented a unique model of steadfastness, stating:

“The enemy may attempt by every means to break the will of free women, but it will never succeed in undermining their determination. Women have made themselves a strong fortress protecting the city and humanity.”

She also addressed the ideas and perspectives that reinforce women’s place in society, referring to the teachings of Abdullah Ocalan regarding women’s freedom. She stressed that the freedom of society cannot be achieved without the freedom of women, and that the ongoing struggle represents a natural continuation of this vision, which has positioned women as essential partners in leadership and decision-making.

The celebration included the chanting of numerous slogans calling for freedom, equality, and women’s dignity, while powerful chants echoed across the city. Women’s artistic groups also performed theatrical and musical shows on stage, portraying the stages of women’s struggle, their suffering, and their victories, creating an atmosphere of joy and hope among the participants.

The event concluded with a renewed pledge to continue the path of struggle, emphasizing that March 8 is not merely a date on the calendar but a way of life for which the women of Kobani have fought with their blood and determination. The participants left the celebration carrying a message of hope that the future will be brighter thanks to the active role of women in building their society and protecting its achievements.
