The bodies of nine heroic fighters who were martyred in the Kobanê prison incident were laid to rest at Martyr Dicle Cemetery in the city of Kobanê during a solemn funeral attended by large crowds.
The funeral ceremony began at Martyr Dicle Cemetery in Kobanê with a minute of silence in tribute to the souls of the martyrs. Thousands of residents of Kobanê took part in the ceremony, including the martyrs’ families, representatives of the Council of Martyrs’ Families, Kongra Star, the Autonomous Administration, women fighters of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), and the Internal Security Forces.
During the ceremony, Ilham Ahmed delivered a speech on behalf of the Autonomous Administration, saying:
“Our dear people, families of our heroic martyrs,
We gather here today at Martyr Dicle Cemetery in Kobanê to bid farewell, with the utmost respect and reverence, to nine of our heroes who were martyred a few days ago in the Kobanê prison incident. Our martyrs sacrificed their lives to protect our people and to ensure the security and stability of the region. We pledge to you that we will continue on their path.
This martyrdom is not an isolated incident; rather, it demonstrates that our struggle against terrorism, chaos, and instability is not yet over. Kobanê, which was once the battlefield where ISIS was defeated, is once again being targeted by forces that do not want our people to live in safety and stability.
We will respond in the strongest possible way through the unity of Kurds, Arabs, and Syriacs; the unity of women and men; and the philosophy of ‘Woman, Life, Freedom.’”
At the conclusion of her speech, Ilham Ahmed extended her deepest condolences to all the martyrs’ families, saying:
“May there be mercy and patience for the families of our martyrs and for all the people of North and East Syria. Martyrs never die.”
Following the speeches, the martyrdom certificates were read and handed over to the families of the martyrs. The martyrs were then laid to rest amid chants of “Martyrs never die” and the ululations of mothers.
