The funeral of the martyr Mahmoud Darwish
On Thursday morning, 1/25/2024, the people of Qamishli mourned the body of the martyr Mahmoud Darwish.
The ceremonies began with a minute of silence to honor the noble martyrs’ souls, followed by several speeches. Fatima Al-Jassim delivered a speech on behalf of the martyr’s families, saying, “A new martyr joins us; rejoice, O mother of the martyr, and lift your head high because you nursed your son with the milk of freedom, and now he ascends to the highest rank.”The martyrs are stars shining in the sky; the blood of all nations is mixed, all for the defense of humanity, the brotherhood of nations, and coexistence. If one Mahmood falls, a thousand will rise.
History is our history, and the land is our land; we will defend our land with all our components. We will stand as one and be an unyielding barrier against any occupier or enemy trying to take our land.
We follow in the footsteps of the martyrs to build society. Glory and eternal rest for the martyrs.
As Kanaan Barkat delivered a speech on behalf of the Internal Security Forces, he said: ‘On behalf of the Internal Security Forces (Asayish), we extend our condolences to the family of the martyr and all the families of the martyrs.'”No doubt, when we proclaimed “Freedom for Rojava,” we knew we would pay a high price. The path we chose is the path of unity among peoples, the path of democracy—Kurds, Arabs, Syriacs, Armenians. We knew this special war would endure.
We are not weak at this moment; we are always strong. We are a formidable force, and these marches cannot stop us. The enemy’s weakness is evident as they resort to marches when they can’t resist on the ground.
We cling to our land, and we will remain steadfast, breaking the dreams of the Turkish state in occupying our land. Just as we began with victory, we will end with victory.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of the martyr’s certificate to the family and the pure body being carried on the shoulders of comrades in arms for burial.
