YPJ Announces Rescue of Yezidi Girl and Two Young Women

The Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) announced that they have rescued a Yezidi girl and two young Yezidi women who were kidnapped by ISIS mercenaries from the al-Hol camp in the Al-Jazira region of northeastern Syria.
The YPJ revealed that, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the Sinjar massacre, they rescued the Yezidi girl and two young Yezidi women from the al-Hol camp, who had been kidnapped by ISIS during its attack on Sinjar in 2014.
In a written statement received today, the units said: “Once again, the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) have fulfilled their promise and rescued a girl and two young Yezidi women on the 10th anniversary of the Sinjar massacre.”
The units reported that the two young women are named “Aziza Khalid Ali (25 years old)” and “Tawaf Dawood Jatu (24 years old).” They stated that “ISIS mercenaries kidnapped them from Sinjar in 2014, with Aziza being rescued from the al-Hol camp, while Tawaf was apprehended by the units while attempting to escape at the Syrian-Iraqi border. After the necessary investigations, it was confirmed that she is Yezidi from the Tal Azir area in Sinjar.”
The units also revealed that, along with the two young Yezidi women, they rescued a Yezidi girl named Khunaf, who was two months old at the time of her kidnapping and grew up with Aziza.
Lina Hussein, the spokesperson for the YPJ’s Relations Office, and Ruken Jamal, the media spokesperson for the units, welcomed the two rescued Yezidi women. Lina emphasized the following points in her statement: “The Women’s Protection Units have rescued hundreds of Yezidi women since 2014. The people of Sinjar have faced numerous massacres and resisted them, with Yezidi women bearing the greatest pain and suffering. During the 2014 massacre perpetrated by ISIS, thousands of Yezidi women were kidnapped, killed, assaulted, and sold as slaves. Undoubtedly, we in the Women’s Protection Units have taken upon ourselves the responsibility of protecting Sinjar and liberating Yezidi women.”
In turn, Ruken Jamal, the media spokesperson for the YPJ, congratulated the rescued girl and young women. She stated that rescuing Yezidi women on the anniversary of the Sinjar massacre is the greatest victory and revenge against ISIS. Achieving the rescue and protection of women is accomplished through organization and escalating the struggle.
The Women’s Protection Units vowed that they would not rest until all Yezidi women kidnapped by ISIS are rescued. They said: “Today, on the anniversary of the Sinjar massacre, the units have once again fulfilled their promise and brought good news to the people of Sinjar with the rescue of a girl and two young Yezidi women.”
