Leader of the Women’s Protection Units, Bertan Qamishlo: We Will Protect the Women of Deir ez-Zor

Bertan Qamishlo, a leader in the Women’s Protection Units, shared her perspective on recent events and developments in Syria, particularly the latest developments in Deir ez-Zor.

Bertan Qamishlo stated: “Syria is one of the arenas where external forces manipulate events. The ongoing war between the armed factions and the Syrian regime is being orchestrated by external powers, especially Turkey, which has led to a major crisis in Syria.

The city of Aleppo was captured in a very short period of time. Mercenaries, supported by Turkey, are roaming freely in Syria, rapidly taking control of many regions and cities. At this moment, they are advancing toward Homs. These battles are being directed by foreign forces. Russia, Iran, and Turkey all have a role in the current events. This does not mean that the mercenaries defeated the regime’s forces, but rather that foreign intervention played a key role.”

Bertan Qamishlo also discussed the importance of the duties of security forces: “Our mission is to protect our people. The Syrian people have suffered greatly and experienced many displacements, and we do not want our people to live through this situation again. As the Syrian Democratic Forces, the Women’s Protection Units, and the People’s Defense Units, we are committed to protecting our people so they do not fall under the control of other forces, whether foreign powers or groups that claim to represent religious causes.”

The leadership of the Women’s Protection Units, Bertan Qamishlo, emphasized: “Mercenary factions have been pushed into engaging in clashes across Syria. In response, we are committed to protecting our people throughout Syria. There is an urgent need to provide protection in northern and eastern Syria today, and we will not allow these areas to fall into the hands of tyrants and oppressors. We have mobilized all our forces to safeguard the people.”

Regarding the current situation in Deir ez-Zor, Bertan Qamishlo said: “Due to the wars that have raged in the Deir ez-Zor region, many areas and infrastructures have been destroyed. We do not want these attacks to happen again, nor do we want harm to come to the community’s dignity or culture. As the Women’s Protection Units, the Syrian Democratic Forces, and the Deir ez-Zor Military Council, we have taken the responsibility of protecting these areas upon ourselves. The people themselves have requested to be freed from this dangerous situation. In response to the people’s calls for help, we have advanced into areas of Deir ez-Zor, where we were not previously present, and where mercenaries now pose a threat. As a military force, we are prepared for all types of attacks.”

In conclusion, Bertan Qamishlo stated: “As the Women’s Protection Units, we will protect the mothers and women of the Deir ez-Zor community to ensure they are not subjected to inhumane attacks. For this reason, we are dedicating all our efforts to this cause.”
