Amira Mohammed, a member of the Military Council of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), spoke about the anniversary of Raqqa’s liberation, saying:
“On this day, we commemorate the liberation of Raqqa from the terrorist organization ISIS. This anniversary holds great significance in the hearts of our people in all their diverse communities.”
She went on to say:”The people of Raqqa suffered greatly under the terrorist group ISIS — from its oppression, tyranny, and the horrific acts it committed. Our forces, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), confronted one of the most dangerous terrorist organizations, ISIS, and succeeded in liberating the city of Raqqa on this very day.
We will always remain faithful to our pledge — our promise to liberate all of Syria and every inch of our land that is still under occupation.”
Amira Mohammed concluded her statement by saying:
“From bleak darkness to the light of the sun, the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Women’s Protection Units managed to liberate the city of Raqqa from ISIS’s crimes, which included forcing women into black garments and chains. Today, on behalf of the Women’s Protection Units and the Syrian Democratic Forces, we salute all our people and reaffirm that we will always remain true to our promise — to liberate all of Syria and every inch of our occupied land. We will continue to be the solid shield against any enemy attempting to threaten our regions. Raqqa is now a symbol of safety and the pearl of the Euphrates, a city that suffered greatly but was finally liberated through the dedication and sacrifices of these forces, along with all the regions of North and East Syria.”
