To our people and to public opinion

Every martyr embodies a philosophy of free life. The strength and will that enable our people to continue their path are rooted in the seeds planted by our martyrs upon the land of freedom—seeds they watered with their pure blood. Our fighters have struggled with unwavering resolve to break the chains of oppression, standing side by side with courage against the domination and authority of the occupying forces, striving to build a dignified life founded on justice and equality.

Women—who long endured marginalization and oppression—reorganized themselves in Western Kurdistan, affirming their presence through relentless struggle and a steadfast determination to live in dignity and freedom. They proved that dignity is inseparable from the pursuit of freedom. Since the beginning of the Rojava Revolution, hundreds of heroic women have sacrificed their lives for liberty, inscribing their stories of bravery across all arenas of war and life with strength and determination in defense of their land and people.

At this time, we extend our deepest condolences to our great leader Abdullah Öcalan, to his esteemed family, and to all our freedom-loving people. Our comrade Azadî Halabja, known as Halabja Bekir, was born and raised within the Afrinian cultural fabric. She was a distinguished woman—talented, humble, intelligent, and capable of bearing the responsibilities of life. From the earliest days of the Rojava Revolution, she assumed her duties with dedication, tirelessly striving to dismantle the patriarchal mentality imposed upon women. During her studies in law, she examined the conditions of women and was deeply influenced by the thoughts of Leader Abdullah Öcalan on this matter. Seeking to intensify her struggle against entrenched patriarchal mindsets, she joined the Revolutionary Youth in 2012, where she organized many young people and became a source of love and respect within the community.

Yet this alone did not satisfy her aspirations. In the same year, she joined the ranks of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) to continue her struggle. At the dawn of the revolution, she proved herself as a revolutionary amidst the hardships and challenges of the Rojava War. As a Kurdish woman, she made significant contributions across various fronts of the revolution, safeguarding the legacy of free women.

In both life and battle, she became a role model to her comrades with her dynamic character, quickly earning extensive knowledge and experience. To build personalities aligned with the concept of the Democratic Nation, she also took part in educational and ideological training programs, preparing many comrades for leadership roles. Later, fulfilling her duty to the highest degree, she moved to the frontlines, fighting with exceptional bravery on numerous battlefields. Even when wounded, she elevated her own morale with her passion for freedom and continued to assume leadership roles with great determination.

Her injury, however, did not hinder her ambitions. She worked even harder, taking on responsibilities at the level of North and East Syria within the Federation of the Wounded (Federasyona Mala Gerîla û Egît). When her wound worsened, she returned for medical treatment, and despite all efforts, our comrade joined the caravan of martyrs during her treatment.

Comrade Azadî demonstrated exceptional courage in every field she served. She held a special place in the hearts of all her comrades, known for her bravery and deep devotion to the cause of freedom. Despite the imperialist powers’ prolonged policies of extermination, suppression, and plunder in North and East Syria, her resilient will transformed her body into a shield protecting her land and people. With every drop of her blood, she engraved her name upon this land.

As the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), we take pride in the martyrdom of our heroine and comrade Azadî. As her comrades on the path of struggle, we pledge that we will never abandon this fight until we fulfill the aspirations of this ancient land of humanity and achieve the physical freedom of our Leader—the Leader of the Democratic Nation. We will continue walking in the footsteps of our martyrs until our very last breath.

Once again, we extend our condolences to the family of our comrade and to all our steadfast and struggling peoples.
