To Our People and the Public Opinion

Throughout the history of Kurdistan, Kurdish women have played a pioneering role, making unparalleled efforts to protect the culture, identity, and land of their homeland at all times. Our comrade Beritan Fuad was one of these brave heroines, distinguished by her courage in defending her homeland. We extend our condolences to the leader of the humanistic people, Commander Abdullah Öcalan, to our esteemed families, to patriots, and to all freedom-loving peoples, and we renew our commitment to follow in the footsteps of Comrade Beritan.
In the history of resistance and struggle, the people of Botan have been pioneers of resistance without interruption. With the struggle of the heroine Benîvş Agal, the spirit of rebellion and resistance became the culture of the women of Botan. At every moment of struggle, resistant women were leaders in the life of the Kurdish people and in the life of women, raising the banner of resistance and patriotism to the highest peaks.
Our comrade Beritan Fuad was also one of these women, raised in a family built on the culture of revenge in Botan. She became acquainted with the Kurdish liberation movement in her childhood, which strengthened her love for her homeland. From our noble family, Beritan’s brother, Fuad Ahmed, became a contemporary fighter and a great hero in the Kurdish liberation movement until he attained martyrdom.
During the people’s uprising, Comrade Beritan’s passion for her homeland and for the freedom of Kurdistan grew stronger. In 2012, she moved to Rojava, Kurdistan, and joined the ranks of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ).
She was among the pioneers who played a vital role in the initial stages of the revolution. Amid attacks on Rojava, many young women from Northern Kurdistan crossed countless boundaries and fought in Rojava to defend the people and the land of Mesopotamia. They took up arms against the attacks of armed gangs and fought side by side for the survival of the Kurdish people and the peoples of the region.
The struggle of Kurdish women, led by all the women of the region, had a profound impact. As a result, all four parts of Kurdistan witnessed the fight for freedom thanks to the resistance of women. Our comrade played a pivotal role during the darkest periods of the war in Western Kurdistan and in the process of establishing the system of democratic self-administration. She participated in life with great dedication and passion, and despite her health problems, she never surrendered to life or struggle. She was a devoted woman who always fought to implement the ideas of the Leader.

Comrade Beritan suffered from kidney disease for years. On January 20, 2025, while under medical supervision in the hospital, our comrade passed away due to her illness.
