To Our People and Public Opinion

“Freedom’s history is written by the pens of heroes; through their blood and will, lights are born in the face of darkness.

Our comrade Zilan Kobani grew up within a deeply rooted patriotic family, firmly connected to the land and national culture—an upbringing that bound her to the philosophy of a free life.

The path Zilan began, marked by immense sacrifice, has today evolved into a global women’s revolution. We extend our deepest condolences to the founder of the philosophy of free life, leader Abdullah Öcalan, to the family of our comrade Zilan, and to our people.

Zein Oso, known by her nom de guerre Zilan Kobani, was not merely a fighter; she was the product of a conscious patriotic upbringing and the embodiment of the philosophy of “Woman, Life, Freedom.” Intellectually, her character was shaped upon these foundations. In the darkest moments of the Kobani war, she became an ideological response to the brutality of (ISIS).

Through her struggle, Comrade Zilan demonstrated that sacrifice is not limited to the battlefield; it is the offering of one’s life for the freedom of other women, for the future of children, and for a democratic system. Through her sacrifice, she shattered the boundaries of fear and became a source of inspiration for thousands of Kurdish girls and women around the world.

As a Kurdish woman, Comrade Zilan Kobani found her identity within the ranks of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ). She firmly believed that society cannot be free unless women are liberated. Her struggle against occupation was also a revolution against the patriarchal mindset that sought to break women’s will.

Comrade Zilan stood as a true embodiment of patriotism. To her, the homeland was not merely land—it was culture, language, and existence. This bond granted her immense spiritual strength, such that no technological weapon could stand against her determination.

Raised on the philosophy of Abdullah Öcalan, Comrade Zilan Kobani lives on today in every heart that struggles for freedom. She was a light illuminating the path of the women’s revolution in the Middle East, and her intellectual strength has become a legacy followed by thousands of women today.

Her sacrifice is embodied in the ranks of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) and in the Rojava Revolution—“the march toward victory.” Her name has become a symbol of courage. This struggle and sacrifice laid the foundation for the victory of Kobani and continues, like a lamp, to light the path of freedom.

On April 20, 2026, in Derik, Comrade Zilan Kobani joined the ranks of the immortal after a military incident.

From this, we—followers of this sacred legacy—declare that our greatest form of revenge is to build the free life for which Comrade Zilan and thousands of martyrs sacrificed their lives. The struggle of Comrade Zilan Kobani is not merely a memory to us, but a call to action. In her person, we remember all the martyrs of the revolution with gratitude, and we vow to fulfill their dreams and aspirations for free leadership and a free Kurdistan.
