Thousands of students, teachers, and residents of the city of Qamishlo took part in a mass demonstration on the occasion of Kurdish Language Day, observed annually on May 15. The participants called for their linguistic rights and demanded the constitutional recognition of the Kurdish language in Syria’s new constitution.
