Hundreds in Kirkê Legê Demand Recognition of the Women’s Protection Units as an Official Military Force

The city of Kirkê Legê witnessed a large-scale public march today, bringing together hundreds of residents and members of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) to reaffirm popular support for the units and demand their recognition as an official military force within the Syrian state.

Participants in the march carried YPJ flags while chanting slogans emphasizing the unity between society and the women’s military forces, most notably: “We Are All YPJ… and YPJ Represents Us.” The demonstration reflected strong public determination to secure women’s rights in both the defense and political spheres.

During the gathering, a speech was delivered on behalf of Kongra Star, focusing on the pivotal role played by the units in protecting the region. Administrator Zulfa Abdo stated:

“The state must recognize the Women’s Protection Units as an official military force. It is a force that has demonstrated unwavering determination through many years of struggle. These units fought face-to-face against the mentality of ISIS and the patriarchal authoritarian system. Therefore, today we reaffirm our full support for them and declare with one voice that this force represents us all.”

The march concluded with enthusiastic chants honoring the struggle of the Women’s Protection Units, alongside slogans praising the ideology of Abdullah Öcalan, amid an atmosphere that underscored the continuation of activities demanding women’s legitimate rights to determine their future and safeguard their military and social achievements.
