During the visit, Abdulkarim Omar spoke on behalf of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, touching on the stage of drafting the social contract announced in December 2023. Omar explained that the social contract was prepared with the will of all religions, people, and segments of society, saying, “There is no equal to it.” Women’s Protection Units spokesperson Roxan Mohammed drew attention to the strict isolation of Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Ocalan, whom she described as the “engineer of the women’s revolution.” Mohammed also reminded that the Italian people have supported them since the resistance of Kobani, making it a great morale boost for them.
Turin
The delegation members participated in an event organized by ARCI Torino on March 7 in Turin, led by activists of Fridays for Future. In the event, mostly attended by young people, Marco Grimaldi, assistant to the leader of the Green Left Alliance, spoke with delegation members. Grimaldi expressed his frustration with the Italian government and European countries for not managing North and East Syria, which fought ISIS alone. Grimaldi criticized Turkish state policies regarding occupation and isolation, stating that it affects the Rojava system. Women’s Protection Units spokesperson Roxan Mohammed highlighted Turkish state attacks, saying, “Every country selling weapons to Turkey is a partner in these attacks.” She concluded her speech with the slogan “Women, Life, Freedom.”
Milan
The event was held in Milan at the Casa delle donna, hosted by the municipality of Bresso. Roxan Mohammed spoke at the event titled “Women in War Stages,” saying that women’s self-protection must be fully understood from both a physical and ideological standpoint. Mohammed stated that the experience of self-protection in Rojava has become beneficial to all women, noting that in the past ten years, life domains and social relationships have changed with a women’s touch. Participants listened with interest to Roxan Mohammed, and the event continued with questions and answers.
Bresso
The final event was held in the municipality of Bresso. This event, held at the Youth Theater in the municipality of Bresso, discussed the philosophy of the slogan “Women, Life, Freedom.” Women’s Protection Units spokesperson Roxan Mohammed indicated that this philosophy has been applied in Rojava. After the speeches, a group called Compagnia Teatrale presented their play titled “lo Vado Madre” (I’m Going to My Mother!).
