Martyrs are the radiant light of freedom.
On Martyrs’ Day, the seventh anniversary of the Qereçox martyrs, on this sacred historical occasion, we remember all the martyrs of the freedom revolution with respect and reverence. As Leader Apo elucidates, “Martyrs are the true bearers of this struggle.” They are those who light our path, those who water the future of this homeland with their pure blood. Our martyrs are the holiest values.
On April 25, 2017, the occupying Turkish state and fascism targeted the Qereçox summit near the city of Derik with a treacherous aerial attack. This led to the martyrdom of twenty of our heroic comrades, including several of our journalist comrades. Among them were Şilan Botan, Hekî, and Rêvan. We honor all our martyrs who ascended in this treacherous attack with great respect and reverence.
This attack was one of those assaults aimed at destroying the people and the gains of the freedom revolution. It is also hostile to the human consciousness characterized by democracy and freedom. However, due to the relentless struggle, continuous effort, and resistance of the martyrs, as well as the heroic deeds of our fighters and our people, unparalleled in human history, a strong response is given to the genocidal attacks of the Turkish occupation. Despite all the enemy’s attacks and savagery, the people and the fighters for freedom fight side by side, fighting in lined ranks and with a united and integrated spirit like never before.
On Martyrs’ Day, we declare that cherishing the blood of every martyr is our fundamental duty, and we will continue their path, shining forward to realize their dreams on the path of freedom with strong will and spirit.
