“We draw strength and morale from our comrades in the Women’s Protection Units”

From the bastions of resistance, fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have expressed their discontent over the Damascus regime’s failure to release the captured Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) fighters.

SDF fighters Robar Qamishlo and Aziz Arab, who are stationed at the Tishrin Dam resistance point, spoke of the leadership and bravery of the YPJ fighters. They stated that although the Damascus regime does not want women to have a place in society, they reject this approach entirely and will continue to struggle and fight alongside their female comrades against this mentality until the end.

“As fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces, we stand united with our comrades from the Women’s Protection Units”

Rubar Qamishlo, an SDF fighter, commented on the Damascus regime’s stance on women’s freedom, saying: “The Damascus regime rejects the idea of women’s freedom and the philosophy of Leader Apo. As SDF fighters, we stand with our comrades and will fight together until the end. We will escalate our struggle against the mentality of male-dominated authoritarianism.”

Aziz Erab, an SDF fighter of Arab origin, spoke about the determination and strength of his female comrades in the YPJ. He said:“We draw our strength and morale from our female comrades. Their courage in life and on the battlefield inspires us greatly and gives us strength. The way the Damascus authorities have handled the issue of women’s freedom—especially their failure to release the captured YPJ fighters—is clear evidence of their unwillingness to accept women’s independence and willpower. We will never accept this approach and will continue our resistance against it.”

Aziz also commented on the broader political context, saying:“Months have passed since Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham came to power, but issues of nationalism, sexism, sectarianism, and centralism are only worsening. It appears that they do not want to achieve democracy and equality—especially women’s freedom—in Syria. As fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Women’s Protection Units, we will continue our struggle for freedom until democracy and stability are achieved throughout Syria.”
