2025Statements

To Our People and the General Public

Protection Units, we condemn the cowardly terrorist suicide bombing that targeted worshippers at the Mar Elias Church in the Al-Dweilaa neighborhood of Damascus. We offer our condolences to the families of the martyrs, express our solidarity with them, and wish a speedy recovery to the wounded.

Over the past years, the Women’s Protection Units have fought valiantly against the terrorist organization ISIS, inflicting major defeats upon them. The YPJ remains a formidable force standing against terrorism in all its forms.

The cowardly terrorist attack that targeted the worshippers at Mar Elias Church was not aimed at Christians alone—it was an attack on all Syrians who reject terrorism and embrace peace. It was also an attempt to undermine all shared human values.

We emphasize that hate speech and incitement are no less dangerous than acts of terrorism, as they lay the groundwork for terrorists to carry out their attacks. Such rhetoric does not serve the interests of Syria in this critical and decisive phase.

We highlight the role of the Syrian authorities in holding the perpetrators of this heinous terrorist act accountable, and in conducting genuine and transparent investigations to bring the attackers, instigators, and their supporters to justice.

As the Women’s Protection Units, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to combating terrorism. We remain fully prepared to participate in any Syrian effort to fight terrorism across the entire Syrian geography, in order to protect Syrian society and Syrian women with full responsibility, national spirit, and social duty.
