On the Occasion of Akitu

With the arrival of the new spring and the rebirth of nature, we, in the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), extend our warmest congratulations and heartfelt greetings to our Syriac, Assyrian, and Chaldean peoples, and to all women, on the occasion of Akitu.
Akitu is not merely the beginning of a new year; it is a symbol of المقاومة and a deeply rooted heritage in Mesopotamia. We believe that the realization of a democratic life is achieved through the will of free women and the unity of peoples.
May this celebration serve as a path toward peace and victory for all the peoples of the region. In the spirit of “Woman, Life, Freedom” (Jin, Jiyan, Azadî), we congratulate you on the arrival of the new Akitu year.
