To Our People and the Public

Fighter of the Tishrin Dam: Martyr Distan Rojhat
In the person of our pioneering fighter Distan Rojhat, we lovingly and gratefully remember the comrades who fought with a spirit of self-sacrifice in the Resistance of the Age—the resistance at Tishrin Dam—until they reached the highest and most noble rank, the rank of martyrdom. Once again, we renew our pledge and loyalty to the martyrs until we achieve victory for the cause of freedom.
As we know, on November 27, 2024, the Turkish occupying state and its mercenaries escalated their attacks on Syria and Western Kurdistan. Naturally, the goal of the invading Turkish state’s mercenaries was not only to occupy Shahba, Tal Rifaat, and Manbij, but rather to renew their hegemony and implement the Misak-ı Millî pact, which calls for the occupation of all Kurdish lands. In response, our forces have been resisting and repelling these occupying attacks day after day. Today, the Tishrin Dam witnesses many heroic epics, where fighters and the peoples of the region are writing the greatest acts of resistance. Standing side by side, they form a vanguard example of revolutionary people’s war. Our people, the true owners of this land—from the youngest to the eldest—have shown an unprecedented resistance in history, turning their bodies into a strong bridge that cannot be broken, preserving this sacred land.
The fighter of the Women’s Protection Units, Derya Haci, known by her nom de guerre “Distan Rojhat,” was martyred on January 8, 2025, in an airstrike while fighting against the mercenaries of the Turkish occupying state on the frontlines at Tishrin Dam in Kobanî. First and foremost, we extend our condolences to the patriotic family of Martyr Distan Rojhat, and to all our people and comrades. In the person of our comrade Martyr Distan, we remember all the martyrs of the Tishrin Dam and Qara Qozak resistance. Once again, we affirm that we will follow in the footsteps of our noble martyrs and realize their dreams, and that we will reach a free leadership and a liberated homeland where all nationalities, religions, and ethnicities can coexist.
Our comrade in the Women’s Protection Units, Distan Rojhat, was born in 2004 in the city of resistance, Kobanî. She was raised in a patriotic family that has given many martyrs. For this reason, she grew up to the sound of heroic epics, which gave her a pure heart. The Qamishlo uprising and the heroic resistance in Kobanî had a significant impact on shaping Martyr Distan’s personality. As she became aware of the revolution and the struggle, Martyr Distan realized the strength of women and their ability to create success through their own initiatives and independent power.
In 2021, our comrade joined the Women’s Protection Units. The battles of Serekaniye and Tal Abyad played a major role in her decision to join. After becoming part of the ranks of freedom, she began to better understand and analyze herself and the society she grew up in. As she deepened her understanding of Leader Apo’s thought and philosophy, she became more aware of her power and truly discovered herself. To embody the thought and philosophy of Leader Apo in life, especially regarding women, she made many efforts and attempts.
Our comrade Distan was known for her love of life. She would lift her comrades’ spirits and always gave them strength. She was a hardworking person at every moment of life, known for her great humility and pure heart. After receiving both military and ideological training, the character of the warrior woman developed within her. She carried the experiences and knowledge gained over twelve years of the Women’s Protection Units into her own life and struggle. With her courage and bravery, she became one of the pioneering examples of the Tishrin Dam resistance. She understood well that protecting the Tishrin Dam meant protecting North and East Syria. Our comrade Distan Rojhat once again raised the banner of Arin Mirkan high and revived the great resistance of Arin Mirkan.
Today, thanks to these martyrs, we are able to celebrate the twelfth anniversary of the founding of the Women’s Protection Units. As the Women’s Protection Units, we will uphold this legacy and realize their dreams, because the martyrs are the ones who light our path. For this reason, we will not stop on our journey until we crown the cause of women’s and people’s freedom with victory.
