To Our People and Public Opinion

In the course of the unique resistance at the Tishrin Dam, the Qaraqozaq Bridge, and Deir Hafir, legendary pages of history were inscribed—tales of heroism and leadership told one after another. In that resistance, dozens of commanders and fighters offered the highest sacrifices until their last breath, reaching the rank of martyrdom.

Comrade Yara Mustafa, known by her nom de guerre Nûcan Gabar, opened her eyes to life in the land of heroic sacrifices in Afrin. Nûcan grew up in an environment rich in authentic Kurdish culture, deeply rooted in history and tradition. As she matured, her dreams of freedom grew stronger, her understanding of true national liberation deepened, and her character became more resilient. From her early childhood, she came to know the revolution through the patriotic spirit of her family, where her heart and soul became bound to the struggle.

Two of Comrade Nûcan’s uncles, Rojhat Gabar and Çekdar Gabar, were prominent fighters in the ranks of the Freedom Revolution, leading heroic struggles until they were martyred. This left a profound mark on Nûcan’s revolutionary character. Likewise, the Afrin Resistance became a turning point in her life. She refused to allow the occupation to prevail, and, deeply moved by the Resistance of the Age, she chose to embrace a new life and joined the ranks of the Women’s Protection Units – YPJ.

After joining, she underwent extensive ideological and military training, becoming one of the most skilled and capable women fighters. Among her comrades, she was known for her leadership, steadfastness, and loyalty. She never accepted shortcomings in herself, always striving for self-improvement and progress, and made her life an example of revolutionary struggle. Her character was strong and pure, marked by high principles in her friendships and relations. She held an unshakable conviction that the physical freedom of Leader Apo would be achieved, and that this news would reach all freedom-seekers.

Like thousands of her comrades, Nûcan bore great responsibilities with a spirit of sacrifice and devotion. Ultimately, during the Resistance of Tishrin Dam, she played significant roles and successfully fulfilled her duties in the best way possible.

On January 13, 2025, while on her way to a mission with her comrades Tekoşer Afrin and Xebat Baz, Nûcan was martyred as a result of an airstrike carried out by the occupying Turkish state. Their names became symbols of resistance, the banner of victory was raised over the Tishrin Dam, and the voice of freedom echoed throughout the world.
